About Leone

I am originally from Ireland and spent my formative years working at a horse barn. Life was carefree and days were spent indulging in my love of horses and horseback riding cross-country!   As a child, the James Herriot TV and book series captured my heart. I knew early on that I had an affinity for animals.   After passing the British Horse Society exam, I taught riding lessons at a local riding school for many years. I have received a distinction in the advanced stylist program from Creedons College Cork, Ireland.  Creedons College is focused on providing a high standard of adult education in the pet industry.

For over ten years I have called Nantucket home. In my free time, I volunteer with Cattrap, a local non-profit organization from which I adopted my three cats, Gracie Goosie, Tinker, and James Herriot.

Why Animal Care?

During the past 30 years, I have had experience caring for many different types of animals. This includes pets of all ages and in various stages of health.  Dogs, cats, equines, alpaca, goats and hens and a pot-bellied pig have all been kindly, safely and respectfully cared for.  These experiences have taught me incredible life lessons, which I carry with me every day, compassion, empathy and greater understanding of the creatures we live along side.  I have learned to look beyond the obvious and recognize the uniqueness of each animal.  It has long been an objective of mine to take the time to understand the individualism of each pet in our care which makes them unique to another and use that information to provide a personalized and positive interaction maintaining the dignity and respect.  I look forward to incorporating those lessons I have learned when taking care of the grooming needs of the dogs of Nantucket.
